Master/Coach Mike Kim—Taekwondo and BJJ
Mike Kim has been practicing martial arts for over 35 years, earning his first black belt in Taekwondo at the age of ten. He currently holds the rank of 5th-degree black belt, certified through the Kukkiwon. He also has more than 20 years of experience in Judo, where he holds a 2nd-degree black belt certified by both the USJF and the Kodokan. In addition, he earned his black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under Professor Milton Bastos, a six-time world champion.
Since beginning his teaching career in 2000, Mike has worked with students of all ages, helping them achieve their goals—whether as competitors or recreational practitioners. He serves as the head instructor for MTA’s Taekwondo program and the children’s (ages 4–7) Jiu-Jitsu program. With extensive competitive experience across all three disciplines, some of his notable accolades include:

Prior to teaching at MTA, Mike worked as a schoolteacher in both private and public schools. He taught 3rd and 4th grade core classes in the Bay Area and served as an English teacher in South Korea. He understands the value of education, and his extensive experience in lesson planning, curriculum development, and differentiated instruction brings exceptional value to his martial arts teaching—setting him apart from other instructors. He holds a B.S. in Business Marketing and has attended the University of Colorado and San José State University.

Coach Mike has been training in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu since 2002 and he is currently a first degree Black Belt under Alan ‘Gumby’ Marques. An active competitor since white belt, Coach Mike has won numerous titles in the sport of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Some of his accomplishments include:

Coach Jinhyoung Park
Coach Jinhyoung is a 4th degree master of taekwondo and a blue belt and active competitor in the art of Brazilian jiu-jitsu. He has been teaching for over 10 years, eventually landing here at MTA. When he teaches, he strives to bring an environment for growth not only physically, but also mentally.
Coach RJ Cho
Coach RJ is a blue belt in BJJ and a highly-skilled wrestler. You can find him on the mats helping out with our jiu-jitsu classes and teaching takedowns to all our students. He’s an active competitor in Brazilian jiu-jitsu, and has glorious hair.
